The Details

This fun and engaging course introduces young artists and families to the foundational techniques of ceramic arts, encompassing both wheel throwing and handbuilding. Tailored specifically for youth ages 4 to 14, this class provides age-appropriate instruction in a supportive studio environment. Over seven weeks, students will receive personalized guidance to transform raw clay into finished, functional, and sculptural pieces. Instructors will teach the basics of the potter’s wheel (centering and shaping bowls) alongside core handbuilding methods (pinching, coiling, and slab construction). (Note for older youth: Students aged 13–14 have the option to register for this youth class or our adult Studio Ceramics courses alongside an adult. Youth aged 15–17 are welcome to attend adult Studio Ceramics courses on their own). What You Will Learn: The Potter's Wheel: Learn clay preparation, centering, and throwing basic forms. Handbuilding Methods: Sculpt and create using traditional pinch, coil, and slab techniques. Glazing & Firing: Explore studio glazes, painting techniques, and how kiln firing works. Studio Policies & Registration: Tuition: Fees are per person and all-inclusive (covers clay, tools, glazes, and firings). Supervision: Children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Adult Options: To Participate: Please purchase an individual registration for yourself to work alongside your child. To Supervise Only: You may relax in our studio lounge free of charge during class. Spaces are limited to ensure plenty of wheel time. Register today!
